A compelling HDR (High Dynamic Range) experience is very attractive for many as it can greatly heighten immersion and the sense of ‘realism’ when gaming and viewing HDR video content. The ViewSonic VX2781-4K-PRO aims to provide this experience, in high refresh rate ‘4K’ IPS flavour. HDMI 2.1 is supported to allow a 120Hz ‘4K’ UHD signal to be used with compatible games consoles, alongside VRR support. The monitor has a low-profile stand base design with broad neck and dark matte materials used extensively. The top and side bezels adopt the popular dual-stage design, with slim panel borders flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

The image below is a placeholder image. The final design is similar but will include the usual ‘ViewSonic’ wording on the bottom bezel rather than the Gouldian finch logo.

A 27″ 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) IPS-type panel is used which includes a matte anti-glare screen surface, 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour support. This is believed to be a BOE IPS-ADS panel. A 160Hz refresh rate is supported alongside Adaptive-Sync, including AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ with 48 – 160Hz VRR range plus LFC assumed. A flicker-free 1152-zone QD Mini LED backlight delivers a 600 cd/m² (1000 cd/m² HDR peak) typical maximum luminance and 98% DCI-P3 (96% Adobe RGB) colour gamut. The monitor is factory calibrated with DeltaE strobe backlight setting. As usual, pay little attention to such figures.

The stand attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism and offers full ergonomic flexibility, including 130mm (5.12 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. It can be removed to reveal 75 x 75mm VESA holes for alternative mounting. RGB LED lighting elements are included, inwards-facing chevrons either side of the stand attachment point. The ports face downwards and include; DC power input (external ‘power brick’), 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, 2 DP 1.4 ports, USB-C (96W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), a 3.5mm headphone jack and 4 USB 3.0 ports plus Type-B upstream. 2 x 5W speakers are also included, whilst the monitor includes 2-system PiP/PbP support as well as KVM. This allows easy display input switching and USB peripheral sharing between multiple systems. Further details can be found on Chinese retailer JD.com (requires translation into English). The monitor is listed there for the equivalent of ~$1000 USD, information on price and availability in countries such as the US still to come.
